What Causes Vertigo? – How To Cure Vertigo

There is a sensory system that is regularly forgotten about and which many aren’t aware of, for optimal  movement. This sensory system is known as proprioception (also known as our movement system).

Proprioception is our body’s natural awareness in space and of our surroundings. It is what allows us to touch our nose with our hand, as well as know the location of our nose whilst our eyes are closed. It is the least important out of the 3 main sensory systems (the others being the visual and vestibular system), but is usually the easiest to enhance and rehabilitate.

Treatment For Vertigo – How To Cure Vertigo

This type of rehabilitation deals with a variety of disorders that result in symptoms such as vertigo, dizziness and imbalance. Treatment is based on identifying the nature of the pathology.  This is done by obtaining a thorough medical history, which includes information on medications or other medical conditions, such as blood pressure issues, which can cause or contribute to symptoms. Some of these disorders such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), resolve quickly with manual treatment due to the nature of the pathology. Many other disorders that occur do not respond to manual treatment and instead are treated with home exercises. The exercises that are prescribed may be for habituation, where repeated exposure to a provocative stimulus will result in an improvement of symptoms related to that stimulus as the nervous system adapts to the exercises.  Exercises may also be prescribed on a substitution principle that causes the nervous system to change the value it attaches to certain sensory information. This decreases the reliance it places on the provocative stimulus by making it more sensitive to other sensory information, which it can then use to accomplish a functional task such as balance.

Vertigo Cure – Treatment For Vertigo

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – More than seven million people in the U.S. suffer from vertigo with 50,000 in the Denver area alone. The symptoms include feeling surroundings spinning when nothing is moving.

Now there’s a new do-it-yourself way to treat the most common form of vertigo. CBS4 Health Specialist Kathy Walsh met the doctor who discovered the maneuver. Dr. Carol Foster is at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Foster’s recently published research is a breakthrough in the treatment of vertigo and could be life-changing for people who are disabled at times by extreme dizzy spells.

“You’re rolling over in bed and suddenly you’re hit with this incredible spinning and you see the room going around like you’re in the inside of a washing machine,” Foster said.

Vertigo – Feeling Dizzy

Dizziness is a generalized term used to describe sensations of faintness, light-headedness, feeling off-balanced of unsteady, or a vague spaced out feeling. Vertigo is a false sense of movement, often described as a “room spinning” sensation. The inner ear contains structures that allow the body to sense position and motion, sending information through a nerve to the brain stem, where the information is processed. Symptoms may be caused by disorders of the inner ear, brain stem and cerebellum, the nerve tracts connecting the brain stem and cerebellum, or within the brain stem. Additionally, the eyes contribute to symptoms. However, eyes and the inner ears are not the primary influencing factors in perception of balance and awareness of the head in space (proprioception). Most nerve fibers exists in joints of the first two vertebrae at the base of the skull, C1, C2 and the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Hypnosis Definition – What Does Hypnotized Mean?

What is hypnosis?

Within every culture known to mankind one finds a hint of the concept of hypnosis. There is yet to evolve one universally accepted definition of hypnosis. Dr. Milton Erickson, a widely respected practitioner, and originator of the Ericsonian Method of Hypnosis gave his definition as: “Hypnosis is a particular altered state of selective suggestibility brought about in an individual by the use of a combination of relaxation, fixation of attention, and suggestion.”…

How does it work?

Simply put, a person is relaxed through various personal techniques. One such technique that is used by many hypnotherapists, is “Progressive Relaxation”. Your conscious mind, the one that you are using right now, is relaxed to the point whereby it is by-passed, and you and the therapist can direct thoughts and images deeply and directly to the subconscious mind.
